MARKET LOWER AT MIDDAY, KLCI FLAT

The market ended the morning session of Jan 13 lower as investors took profit on blue chips after the run-up, but MISC continued to outshine other blue chips.

The Kuala Lumpur Composite Index barely changed, up 0.09 of a point to 933.42, while the broader Emas Index added 0.12 point to 220.31 and the Second Board Index inched up 0.14 point to 114.54.

Turnover was 338.90 million shares. Declining counters beat advancers 400 to 289 while 312 counters were unchanged.

The stock exchange was also affected by a major power failure, which hit Kuala Lumpur and many other parts of the country around midday.

Shell was the top loser, down 20 sen to RM8.90, Sime Darby and AMFB fell 15 sen each to RM6.50 and RM7.05 respectively while Public Bank eased 10 sen to RM7.15.

Lii Hen gave up 18 sen to RM2.38 on profit taking after it surged 64 sen yesterday when trading curbs on it were lifted.

Asdion, which was listed today, was up 30.5 sen to 80.5 sen. It was the second most active counter with 15 million shares done.

IncKen was the top gainer, up RM1.75 to RM50.75, while MISC-F rose 30 sen to RM16, MISC gained 20 sen to RM15.70 and MISC-CA rose 15 sen to RM7.50. Telekom added 10 sen to RM12.
