MALAYSIA RECORDS 61 PERCENT INCREASE IN TOURIST ARRIVALS

Foreign tourist arrivals in Malaysia in the first 10 months of this
year reached 13.07 million, an increase of 61.1 percent over the 8.112
million in the corresponding period last year, said Tourism Minister
Dr Leo Michael Toyad.
A total of 1.359 million foreign tourists visited Malaysia in October this
year, up by 36.7 percent over the 994,858 in October last year, while in January
this year, the figure was 1.408 million, the highest in the last three years.
"The rise in foreign tourist arrivals shows their heightened interest in
the country," he stated.
Most of the foreign tourists in October were from Singapore (807,557), followed
by Thailand (139,541), Indonesia (66,011), China (42,211), Japan (30,614),
Brunei (29,466), Australia (19,888), United Kingdom (16,753), India (15,966)
and Taiwan (13,328).
